Your fantasy football season is in make or break territory. Fantasy Football Rankings for Week 5 are likely to start looking pretty similar between most Fantasy Football sites. We now have four data points to breakdown for every team, but it's still not enough information to make fully informed decisions. We need to stay Bayesian and adjust or prior predictions. There is tremendous variance in football every week, we just don’t have enough relevant, applicable data to go from yet, but we are getting closer each week.
Thursday, Night Football - Week 5
San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Rams 8:15pm ET
The San Francisco 49ers' offense will be even more short-handed than it has been in the season's opening month when it takes on the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night.
On Wednesday, the Niners ruled out quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) and receivers Jauan Jennings (ribs, ankle), Ricky Pearsall (right knee) and Jordan Watkins (calf).
Those updates are in addition to a list of players already missing that includes tight end George Kittle (hamstring) and wideout Brandon Aiyuk (knee), per @nflfantasynews.bsky.social.
The 49ers’ offensive line struggles to run block, but they have the fourth-lowest pressure rate allowed. Expect the Rams’ defensive line to pressure Mac Jones with Brock Purdy out. It might be scary for the 49ers because the Rams’ defensive line brings the fifth-highest pressure rate, per @corbinyoung21.bsky.social.

Fantasy Football Weekly Rankings
When examining these fantasy football weekly rankings, take into consideration that we are really only looking at positional ranks, not flex or overall rankings. When it comes to who you start in the flex a lot will depend on your specific league rules and roster construction. If players are ranked within 3 spots of each other the difference between them is negligible, they are expected to score the same amount of points, in those cases go with your gut, flip a coin, or join our Discord Channel.

Quarterback

Jaxson Dart will face the Saints team that bypassed him in the draft.

Bucky Irving officially missed Wednesday's walkthrough due to foot and shoulder injuries, Jenna Laine reports. Bucky Irving (foot/shoulder) not practicing Thursday.
The Browns are expected to lean more on Quinshon Judkins in Week 5 against the Vikings, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports. Cleveland's game against Minnesota on Sunday kicks off at 9:30 a.m. in London.
Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said he "feels good" about RBs Emari Demercado, Bam Knight and Michael Carter. "I'm sure all three of them will play." (per 32BeatWriters and
@Tdrake4sports)
In terms of reps and touches, I think Demercado paces the trio with Carter right behind him, but Carter was taking the first snaps during individual RB drills, followed by Emari Demercado on Wednesday per 32BeatWriters.com.
The NY Jets intend to place Braelon Allen (knee) on injured reserve Thursday, Rich Cimini reports.
The Process
My usual process is to only take data from the previous six weeks, I truly believe anything older than that holds little relevance unless there is a player returning from injury or some reason to discount the newer information. In Week 2 we have very little information we can be confident in. The last six weeks of the previous season can give some indication, and the preseason could provide a glimpse of what’s to come or it could be a mirage.
Wide Receiver

“Chris Godwin in the locker room said he feels great after Sunday’s game and he was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice. Great news for a player coming off such a serious injury”, per @jennalaine.bsky.social. Godwin Godwin (ankle) practiced in full on Wednesday.
Sterling Shepard didn't participate in Wednesday's walkthrough due to a foot injury, Jenna Laine reports. This would move Godwin into the slot more and Godwin thrives in the slot.
Mike Evans (hamstring) didn't participate in Wednesday's walkthrough, Jenna Laine reports.
Tight End

TE Target Share
1. Trey McBride 27.34%
2. Jake Ferguson 23.35%
3. Tyler Warren 22.69%
4. Juwan Johnson 21.99%
5. Brock Bowers 21.95%
6. Hunter Henry 19.83%
7. Kyle Pitts 18.46%
8. Dalton Schultz 18.42%
9. Tucker Kraft 18.18%
10. Zach Ertz 18.02%
Brock Bowers (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, per Raiders.com.
Michael Mayer (concussion) was limited in Wednesday's practice, Paul Gutierrez reports.
Eagles TE Dallas Goedert missed Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury, per 32BeatWriters.com and @Tim_McManus.

Defense/Special Teams

News or Hype?
Week 5 rankings are still fairly narrative based, and I will try to include that information as the week progresses. I think the best way to start our Week 5 approach is to look at implied team totals based on Vegas odds and adjust from there. We need to pay attention to DFS articles and individual player prop-bets (over/under) to get a good idea of how to project median outcomes.
